Hi! I’m Shizu, a painter and illustrator currently based in Bristol, UK. I’m passionate about art education and community welfare, and I would like to use the arts as a tool to improve people’s lives. I hope to work with the public and with schools to create accessible, dialogue-based approaches to learning about art—and, through it, better understand the world and ourselves. I believe art is deeply connected to our lives, society, science, and politics. By making quality art education available to everyone, people can learn to understand themselves and the world around them more. I truly believe that this will open the path to tight-knit communities among people, and through that build a kinder society that advocates for a better life for all.
In my practice, I primarily use wet media, especially oil paint. I enjoy documenting daily life in the places around me—my home, my family members’ homes, and the neighborhoods I grew up in. In my free time, I like to take walks and make sketches in public. I have also worked on illustration and design projects for both commercial and private clients.
